The Overall Process
There are a number of different processes that could be used during a survey, and this depends on the type of survey being conducted. There are three general types of surveyors and resulting surveys.
- Boundary or Land Surveyor: The individual takes measurements and determines the exact locations of property lines.
- Geodetic: This surveyor relies on aerial imaging and satellite pictures to get a picture and measurements on a large portion of the earth.
- Engineering or Construction: The surveyors examine property lines and any changes that have taken place, as well as the location of nearby roads and physical structures. Road topography or grade may also be included and charted.
The Tools for the Process
Malibu land surveyors rely on a number of different tools to present highly accurate data to their clients. In addition to formal training and education, a surveyor must have the right instruments to be effective. A theodolite is a tool that will survey and measure the vertical and horizontal angles found between points. A more advanced theodolite is also able to measure distance. Magnetic locators are able to find iron water lines, land survey markers, or survey monuments. Grade rods and the several variations are for use in measuring the difference in elevation, and they are used in conjunction with optical, surveyor, and laser levels.
For a land surveyor to be effective, it takes a combination of training and tools. However, the work they do is vital to the success of the construction and development industry.
